Identifying Characteristics and Biology
- Very brightly colored rockfish having orange red or red bars on a pinkish white body.
- First band stops at operculum.
- Maximum length is 26 inches, with 16 inches more common.
Range and Habitat
- Central California, to Baja, California.
- The are found from 100 to 1380 feet deep, and mostly bottom dwelling reef fish.
Market Forms
- Their bright colors make them a popular sport fish.
