Corbina – Menticirrhus undulates. Corbina fish are also called beans or sliders.
Identifying Characteristics and Biology
- Member of the croaker family.
- Uniform gray iridescent coloring.
- Single barbel on the chin, and one weak spine in the anal fin.
- The head is long, and the mouth is small.
Range and Habitat
- Pacific, from Point Conception to Gulf of Mexico.
- Bottom fish, they are found in shallow waters in the surf zone, to depths of around 50 feet.
- The eat by scooping up mouthfuls of sand, finding the food, and expelling the sand through their gills.
Market Forms
- California corbina are caught year round.
