Here is the 2016 Grunion Run Schedule, for Open Season Only

Grunion open season run from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Notes below.

  • The grunion run is closed for observation only during the months of April and May.
  • The times above for each date reflect the probable two-hour interval during which spawning may occur. The second hour is typically better, and the best runs normally occur on the second or third nights of a four-night run.
  • Times are Pacific Standard Time, and predicts runs from Cabrillo Beach to the Los Angeles Harbor entrance. For San Diego runs, they are 5 minutes earlier than the above times and Santa Barbara runs they are 25 minutes later than the above times.
  • A valid California fishing license is required for any one 16 years and older.
  • Grunion may be taken by the hands only, and not holes may be dug to entrap them.
  • No bag limits, but only take the fish you can actually use. It is unlawful and unethical to waste fish that you catch.
