Shrimp Creole
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion chopped small
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons minced green bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 can tomato sauce 8 ounces
  • Water (about 1 1/2 to 2 tomato sauce sized cans)
  • Small sprig fresh thyme
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 pounds shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
  1. Melt butter over medium heat. Add in onion and cook until translucent, but do not brown. Add in garlic and green pepper, and cook for 2 minutes more.
  2. Add in the flour, blending until smooth. Add in the tomato sauce, and cook for about 2 minutes. Stir in the water, filling the tomato sauce can 1 1/2 to 2 times. Add in the herbs, salt to taste, and peppers. Add in the shrimp.
  3. Cover the pot, and simmer the dish for about 25 to 30 minutes, until the shrimp is cooked and the dish is thickened.
  4. Serve with rice.
